As part of the National Disaster Management Authority's (NDMA) ongoing initiative to bolster flood resilience, dewatering pumps have been successfully delivered to five islands. The distribution ceremonies, which occurred on separate days, involved the handover of pumps to B. Kendhoo, B. Thulhaadhoo, and B. Maalhos on Monday, followed by Lh. Naifaru and Lh. Kurendhoo on Tuesday. The ceremonies were attended by Deputy Defense Minister Hussain Zahir, NDMA’s CEO Hisan Hassan, Vice Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, and high-ranking officials from the MNDF Northern Area Command.
The MVR 1.4 million flood resilience initiative is designed to provide critical resources to 18 islands that currently lack the necessary facilities to fortify themselves against the impacts of natural disasters. NDMA has affirmed its commitment to extending these vital supplies to the remaining 13 islands in the near future. This initiative represents a strategic and proactive approach to enhance the overall disaster preparedness and response capabilities of vulnerable island communities.
