19 May 2025

The Northern Region Disaster Risk Reduction Symposium 2025, jointly organized by the National Disaster Management Authority, Maldivian Red Crescent, and Kulhudhuffushi City Council, commenced today in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.
This symposium brings together a total of 75 participants from the councils of islands in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani Atolls, as well as relevant agencies from this region. This is a two-day symposium.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Symposium was first initiated in the southern region last year, 2024. That symposium was attended by 97 participants from 4 atolls. This year's symposium is the second in this series.
Participants in this symposium will be provided with information on disaster preparedness, principles of disaster response, and strategic planning for disaster recovery.
Upon the conclusion of this symposium, it is expected that the capacity for disaster preparedness and response in the northern region's islands will be enhanced, paving the way for minimizing losses from disasters.
